Bittered Sling Bistro

Brennivín Aquavit and Bittered Sling partner up for
celebrated Bittered Sling Bistro “Bitter Brunch” pop-up

I had the good fortune of attending one of Bittered Sling Bistro events at the Legacy Liquor Store and I can tell you that not only do you get fed well with great food from Chef Jonathan Chovancek but it’s a very information session about the featured spirit and there’s great cocktails with the featured spirit paired with each course.  And the best thing about it,is that the price is definitely what I consider frugal but fabulous deal..

It’s Iceland for the win this May, with Bittered Sling’s acclaimed “Bittered Sling Bistro” pop-up restaurant coming back for one event only. Brennivín Aquavit, the celebrated spirit of Iceland, will take center stage for Bittered Sling Bistro’s “Bitter Brunch”.

Sponsored by Christopher Stewart Wines & Spirits, the May 28 “Bitter Brunch” – being held around the grand and beautiful harvest table at Legacy Liquor Store’s wine library – is billed as “Nordic with Canadian Perspective” with unique cocktails inspired by Bittered Sling co-founder, award-winning bartender Lauren Mote, and her travels to Iceland last November.

“We intend to go all out for this Bitter Brunch pop-up,” says Bittered Sling co-founder and Chef Jonathan Chovancek, “Icelandic and Nordic flavours are fresh, clean and exciting, and I’m excited to play a Canadian perspective into the menu development, and pair against the richly flavoured profile of the spirit.”

In addition to the inspired and delicious three course – three cocktail menu, guests will also have an exclusive guided tutorial through the spirit’s expressions, and an array of unique beers offered from the same producer, the progressive and award-winning Borg Brogghús, their always charming global ambassador, Óli Rúnar Jónsson along with Sturlaugur Jón Björnsson, their brewmaster.

Space is limited to 36 guests, and tickets can be purchased directly from the eventbrite page: Tickets are $75/each, (this includes taxes, fees and service charges). Please inform the team of any allergies prior to purchasing tickets.

About Bittered Sling

Bittered Sling celebrates the collaboration of mixologist/sommelier Lauren Mote and Chef Jonathan Chovancek, who together bring a combined 30 years of professional experience, knowledge and innovation to the Canadian food and beverage industry. Their line of high-quality, small-batch bitters and extracts — available in a growing number of restaurants, bars and retail locations across North America — provides palate, plate and potion alike with a subtle-yet-exciting fusion of homegrown ingredients and flavours. Originally marketed as a medicinal tonic, bitters are a concentration of select natural herbs, fruits and spices and are an indispensible tool of any bartender as well as a flavouring agent for cocktail and culinary creations both savoury and sweet.

About Brennivín

Brennivín is uniquely Icelandic. The legal beginnings of this distinctive spirit were in 1935, when prohibition was partially lifted on the island. A black label was chosen to be unappealing and limit demand. However, it had the opposite effect. Today the Brennivín label is a symbol for Iceland’s signature drink – and of Iceland itself.

About Borg Brugghús

Borg Brugghús is a progressive Icelandic craft brewery founded in 2010. It has already received numerous international awards at some of the world’s most prestigious competitions for its beers.
