Canadian Wines at the
2019 Vancouver International Wine Festival
My Recommendations

Some people say that the best thing about British Columbia is its salmon and beaches, but I say, it’s the wine. With 280 wineries in B.C.  All I can say is that if Alberta wants to keep its oil (and freezing weather) and ban importing of BC wine, then so be it because we can import oil from another source, but there’s nothing to compare with BC wine. The following is my list of recommendations of Canadian wines that I tasted at the 2019 Vancouver International Wine Festival l. Most of the following Canadian wines are from BC wineries, with the exception of L’Acadie which is in Nova Scotia.

OK Crush Pad
Free Form Ancient Method 2017, ($34.50)

I’ll freely admit to being addicted to bubbles if you freely admit to being the worst boyfriend ever. Because when I get my hands on a case of Free Form Ancient Method 2017, a sparkling Pinot Noir Sparkling wine, I just want to sit in my closet and surround myself with its aromas of a ripe apple orchard and tiny bubbles of lemon meringue while you sit at your computer trolling on Tinder not realizing that I found the password to your bank account. Now I can buy myself 10 cases.

Noble Ridge
Reserve Pinot Noir ($28.90)

I normally don’t like BC Pinot Noirs finding them as limp as the excuses my last boyfriend had for why his ex was calling him at 1am. No, Noble Ridge Reserve Pinot Noir ($28.90) is an elegant wine with soft tannins with its aromas of freshly picked blueberries and notes of ripe black cherries, purple plums and caramel accompanied gave me the liquid courage to drive his Lamborghini to the car wash with the windows down #SqueakyCleanInsideOut

Canadian Wines

Lake Breeze
Semillion Chardonnay ($19.99)

Unlike blended families where kids hate their not so evil stepmothers, this blend of 70% Semillon and 30% Chardonnay in Lake Breeze Semillion Chardonnay blends harmoniously to produce a full body golden wine which smells like a pineapple orchard and tastes like lychees, pears and passionfruit with a finish that lovingly lingers on your tongue. It’s my antidote to my horde of six step sons who act like they’re from the Planet of Apes. #IMarriedKingKong

Gold Hill
Charisma Red Blend  ($20.78)

Sometimes when we touch
The sensation is too much
And I have to close my eyes
And drink
I want to smell the aromas of strawberries and plums
I want to taste the elegant soft tannins and notes of blue and blackberries until I die
till the fear that I’ll never find another bottle of Gold Hill Charisma Red Blend
subsides.

Gold Hill Charisma
White Blend ($17.29)

What time is wine o’clock? Is it after I pour a gallon of coffee down the hatch so I can muster the energy to crawl down the stairs to my wine cellar where precious bottles of Gold Hill Charisma White Blend (blend of Pinot Gris, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc and Gewürztraminer) with its aromas of apples and notes of lime zest await me? Or is it when I get a second wind and decide to jog around the neighbourhood in my birthday suit? #ImGettingAnEvenTanAllOver

Noble Ridge
Reserve Chardonnay ($26)

Tea at 2 o’clock with scones and Devonshire cream, no thank you. I’m not English but for a single Asian gal over 40 that owns the hashtag #JadedPrincess it’s wine and charcuterie at 4. So fill my wine glass with Noble Ridge Reserve Chardonnay. whose aromas of peaches and cream and notes of green apples, stone fruit and honey make me forget that the number of frogs I’ve kissed is over 500. #ThePrinceIsAFigmentOfMyImagination

Canadian Wines

Wild Goose Vineyards
Autumn Gold VQA 2015 ($19)

If you are what you eat, shouldn’t that apply to what you drink as the human body is 50% water. In that case I’d have describe myself as having an intense aromas of honey and apricots and when you kiss my skin you get not so subtle notes of green apple, lemon meringue and spice. Why because I consume a glass of Wild Goose Vineyards Autumn Gold VQA 2015 (Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Blanc) daily. #MyWineGlassHolds26ounces

 Wild Goose Vineyards
Gewürztraminer 2015 ($17.99)

They say you shouldn’t drink alcohol while you’re sitting in the hot sun for extended periods of time. But I do have a scantily clad cabana boy fanning me with a huge palm leaf while he’s pouring me glass after glass of Wild Goose Vineyards Gewürztraminer 2015 which has s a bouquet of exotic fruits on the nose followed by pear and peaches on the palate, making it a very refreshing sweet wine. And if I should pass out from heat stroke, he’s quite proficient in mouth-to-mouth. #IFeelASwoonComingOn

Wild Goose Vineyards
Riesling Stony Slope VQA 2012 ($20)

How good is Wild Goose Vineyards Riesling Stony Slope VQA 2012 wine? With aromas of white honeysuckles and notes of crisp green apples and limestone it’s hard to resist. So when I left the dinner table to get the canapés and returned, my guests guzzled all three bottles. #MyIn-lawsAreMuchMoreManageableWhenThey’rePassedOut

L’Acadie Vineyards
Vintage Cuvée Rosé 2013 ($34.99)

They say it’s not the size of the bubbles that counts. And in the case of L’Acadie Vineyards Vintage Cuvée Rosé 2013 (Marechal Foch, Seyval and L’Acadie) whose fine tiny bubbles with its fragrant aromas of cherries which opens up to notes of strawberries and raspberries with lively acidity it’s apparently true. Although this sparkling rose is over $25 it’s worth every penny.
