CHICHA DINE OUT DINNER MENU

January 17 to February 2, 2020

Chicha’s Dine Out Menu reflects their tapas style restaurant. Each guest enjoys a four course experience. For just $35 (beverages, tax and gratuity are extra) Each guest chooses:

  • 1 appetizer
  • 2 tapas from the entree section
  • 1 dessert

At the media tasting organized by Cassandra Anderton of http://goodlifevancouver.com/, we had an opportunity to taste one of everything on Chicha’s Dine Out Menu for 2020. So here’s my review, although I have to admit I am a bit bias as I have been here about 10 times (twice during previous Dine Out Vancouver Festivals on my own dime)!

My Review of Chicha’s Dine Out Vancouver Menu

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by this year‘s Dine Out Vancouver menus, then they look no further than Chicha because their menu offers something for everyone regardless of food preference or food allergies. From chicken skewers, quinoa salad, seafood chowder, ceviche to delectable Peruvian shortbread cookies and sweet potato doughnuts – all with a Peruvian twist (and fancier names and descriptions below). Bring three friends and share everything on the Dine Out Menu. But get ready for a smorgasbord of flavours as Peruvian tapas are an eclectic fusion of German, Italian, Spanish and Asian cuisine. It’s the United Nation of flavours waiting for the adventurous foodie.

APPETIZERS

Chicha Dine Out Menu

Aji Amarillo Seafood Chowder

Aji Amarillo Seafood Chowder (seafood, red nugget potato, corn, peruvian aji amarillo chili cream chowder).  I  couldn’t taste this menu item as its made from milk but judging from the photo you can tell that Chicha doesn’t skimp on the seafood and all my friends at the table said it was very tasty and hearty.  No one left even one single drop in their bowl.

Quinoa Ensalada

Quinoa Ensalada (quinoa, red onion, mango, avocado, huacatay Peruvian mint and lime vinaigrette, rocoto chili aoli).  If you ever thought being vegetarian was boring, think again as this appetizer will lure you to the greener side of the pasture over the fence that keeps out the carnivores. The sweet flavours of the mango goes so well with the mint and the spicy flavourful rocoto chili aoli. With so many flavours going on there isn’t a party going on in your party – no it’s the whole darn Mardi Gras.

ENTREES

Chicha Restaurant

Chalaco Ceviche

Chalaco Ceviche (Pacific Ling Cod, Wild Sockeye Salmon, Prawns, fresh oranges, green leche de tigre marinade, crispy calamari (gluten free).  This is a tower of goodness from the sea from oodles of prawns, Ling cod and salmon calamari all cooked lightly in the green leche de tigre marinade which has a citrus flavour.

Mariscos Fettuccini

Mariscos Fettuccini (pan seared Pacific Ling Cod, prawns, wilted greens, seared cherry tomatoes, mesquite seafood corn sauce).  Cream based pasta dish which I didn’t have but my friends kept raving about it.  So I’m guessing if you love pasta, this is the dish to order.

Verduras Causa

Verduras Causa (beet root whipped potato, lima bean puree, pickled beets, Peruvian black mint, Rocoto Chili dusted yam chips (vegan, gluten free)).  I call this an elevated version of potato salad as the Lima bean purée and pickled beets adds a depth of flavour that is somehow addicting and I can’t stop licking the plate. Fresh deep fried crisp yam chips accompany this adding a contrasting texture of crunchiness.

Cauliflower

Cauliflower  (Maple and Rocoto Chili glazed cauliflower, yam puree, salsa criolla (vegan, gluten free).  I’m sure everyone has had cauliflower served every which way but have you had spicy and sweet and cooked just enough to have a satisfying crunch factor? But don’t worry. you won’t need a fire extinguisher as the chili isn’t overwhelming. This dish will please all your vegan friends and it will be a pleasure to eat all your vegetables before you eat your dessert.

Chicha

Adobe

Adobe (braised smoked pancha chili eggplant, chickpea stew, crumbled feta, annatto oil, quinoa and honey bread crostini (vegetarian – can be made vegan).  Baby it’s cold outside and so it’s the perfect time to enjoy this hearty and earthy stew of eggplant and chickpeas. The smokiness of the eggplant goes hand in hand with the chili and makes me look at stews as more than just a simple comfort food.

Chicha Dine Out

Papas Rellenas

Papas Rellenas (beef, onions, parsley, black olives and current stuffed potato croquettes, rocoto chili aioli. Chef Shelome Bouvette calls this her Peruvian Shepherd’s Pie except it looks like two dumplings in which the ingredients are incorporated inside. It’s the deep fried outside layer and the flavour of black olives, parsley and chili that makes it a whole lot more tastier than the boring Shepherd’s Pie you’d find on the dinner table in good ol England.

Pollo Skewers

Pollo Skewers (chimmichurri chicken thighs, crumbled feta, lime cream, crushed cancha corn (gluten free)).  Not quite plain and simple chicken skewers as the flavour of the chimmichurri shines through (oregano, parsley, chili flakes and red wine vinegar). I love that Chicha uses chicken thigh instead of breast meat as dark meat has more flavour than white.

Chicha Dine Out

Costillos de Cerdo

Costillos de Cerdo (aji panca chili and orange barbecue sauce glazed baby back ribs, with red nugget, green bean, and smoked bacon potato salad).  I’ll never be vegan because I love love love my meat and these baby back ribs make me want to propose marriage and elope with them because I swear none of my boyfriends have even given me this much pleasure when I bite into the tender flesh that’s covered with the sweet tangy amazing orange chili sauce. And if I was you, I wouldn’t leave your ribs unattended because you can’t trust this little piggy.

DESSERTS

..

Dine Out Vancouver Events

Alfajores Peruvian Cookies

Alfajores Peruvian Cookies (shortbread and dulce leche sandwich cookies).  These are seriously the best shortbread cookies I’ve had (besides the 100 dozen I used to make for Christmas every year when dairy didn’t hate my guts) as they’re so soft and buttery and should I mention there’s dulce leche in the middle. Although I am sensitive to dairy, a little won’t kill me but it has to be something spectacular in order for me to want to make my liver work overtime to get rid of the dairy (which it deems is poison) in my system.  And these shortbread cookies are totally worth it – sorry, liver you lose!

Chicha Restaurant

Picarones

Picarones (sweet potato and pumpkin Peruvian donuts fried to order with orange spiced honey, pisco raspberry sauce).  Move over Tim Horton as these doughnuts are fresh out of the fryer and are made with sweet potatoes and then smothered with the orange honey and tart raspberry sauce. They’re big and I couldn’t finish mine as I’m full

Fresh Fruit (assorted fresh fruit (vegan, gluten free).  We didn’t try this one, but I’m sure fresh fruit needs no review.
