Hannah Moscovitch’s award-winning Infinity makes its Vancouver premiere with Amy Rutherford and Jonathon Young at The Cultch!
The Cultch is thrilled to present the Vancouver premiere of Hannah Moscovitch’s award-winning play Infinity, from Volcano Theatre (Toronto), January 7-19, at the Historic Theatre.
The cynical, skeptical daughter of a theoretical physicist and a composer, Sarah Jean’s clinical approach to love meets with little success. In this absorbing drama infused with science and classical music, three exceptional minds collide. Sarah Jean’s hugely talented yet severely dysfunctional family will learn that love and time itself are connected in unimaginable ways. Infinity fuses a love story with theoretical physics, classical music, and the idea that what time offers us is more than we realize.
Written by renowned Canadian Playwright Hanna Moscovitch, with original music by internationally acclaimed composer, Njo Kong Kie, Infinity was commissioned and developed by Volcano Theatre, directed by award-winning director, Ross Manson, and crafted with close input from world-renowned physicist Lee Smolin. Its world premiere in 2015—a co-production between Volcano Toronto’s Tarragon Theatre—won the 2015 Toronto Theatre Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding New Play. The Vancouver premiere will feature two of Canada’s most esteemed actors, Jonathon Young and Amy Rutherford, as well as up-and-comer Emily Jane King.
“For the first time, Moscovitch pulls from her personal experience in developing these characters and the result is visceral… extremely affecting.” – The Toronto Star
“The strength of Hannah Moscovitch’s Infinity is its emotional core… the play makes you feel as much as it makes you think… brilliant.” – NOW Magazine

ABOUT VOLCANO THEATRE:
Volcano is a Toronto-based live performance creation company that works experimentally and collaboratively, and with an eye to making art that is socially and politically current. Working across boundaries—geographic, cultural, and disciplinary—Volcano makes theatre that connects Canada to itself, and to the world.
Volcano has been called “the best independent theatre company in Toronto” (NOW Magazine), an “explosive company” (The Independent, UK), and “one of those companies that every great theatre city needs – bold, experimental, and bubbling with ideas.” (Toronto Star). The company builds shows in collaboration with a broad array of artists, conducts training programs in Toronto, and has toured work to three continents.
ABOUT THE CULTCH:

The organization operates three theatrical venues, a gallery, and various ancillary spaces in the heart of East Vancouver. The Cultch offers dynamic contemporary programming in theatre, dance, music, and the visual arts, bringing world-class cultural presentations to thousands of citizens each year through its own programming and through providing rental opportunities for community users. Our purpose is to provide a venue for performance that serves a diverse and engaged public and provides space for artistic experimentation and development, building an audience for local companies and presenting cutting-edge national and international work.
