Glossybox

For years I remained faithful to a few select brands, being those brands which offered a bonus with purchase as the “free” products offered me an opportunity to try new products without fear of wasting my money should these bonus products proved to not impress.

With the convenience of shopping online, retailers are now able to offer deeper discounts by cutting out employee wages and rental space. And fashion accessories and beauty products now offering enticing monthly subscriptions where customers receive a box of products.

Glossybox is one such company who offers monthly subscription rates starting at the low price of $21 (Canadians pay $5 for shipping). For that low price you receive five beauty products, most of which are full sized products. I received the August Glossybox box to review and the following is my review.

Glossybox003Manna Kadar Cosmetics Lash Primer. When you unscrew this product, there appears to be a white liquid on the brush. After applying this on my lashes, I noticed that they were white but after I applied my regular mascara, the white disappears and my lashes lengthened immediately and become much fuller in volume than it’s ever been with just an application of mascara. Full size: $24 / .14 oz

..

Glossybox005Sparitual Nail Lacquer. If you’re particularly sensitive to chemicals or just want to use vegan cosmetics, then this nail polish is for you. The solution is a little thinner than most but still goes on easily and did not take long to dry. Full size: $12 / .5 fl oz

Pop Beauty Kajal Pen in Sooty Black.  Not all eye pencils are created equally. As someone who has oily skin around my eyes, it’s hard for me to find an eye pencil or eye liner that doesn’t smear or fade only after an hour. This eye pencil seems to impart a soft black line that only lasts a couple of hours on my oily eyes, so I wasn’t a fan of this product. Full size: $10 / .03 oz

Glamglow Youthcleanse Daily Clearing Cleanser. I’m a big fan of mud masks and this one didn’t disappoint. After applying, it felt less harsher on my skin which means there’s less harsh chemicals in it than other mud masks.  After washing it off, my skin looked cleaner and felt softer. Full size: $39 / 5 oz (1 oz size in Glossybox)

Glossybox001

Lollipops Makeup Lip Balm. I have an overabundance of lip balms in my makeup case which I use alternately as none has really amazed me with their ability to INSTANTLY moisturize. This lip balm surprisingly made my poor chapped lips soft the moment after application and kept them soft even the morning after. Full size: $5.50 / .33 oz

Conclusion

For the mere price of $21, the August Glossybox contained four full sized products and one sample size. The total price of all the products came to $59.60 U.S. So when you pay $21 + $5 for shipping, the total cost of a monthly beauty box is $26 Canadian. Even when you convert the price of $26 to US dollars (e.g. one American dollars = .70 Canadian dollars) to get the price of $33.80 Canadian, you’re still getting double the value for your money, making Glossybox a frugal find and a great way to discover new beauty products..
