Review of Italian Wines
at 2020 Vancouver International Wine Festival

To spit or not to spit, that is the question,
Whether ’tis nobler in the mouth to swallow
The aromas and notes of outspoken fruit,
Or to lose yourself in the spitoon bucket.

The 2020 Vancouver International Wine Festival’s theme was French wines and rosé  wines.  Although I focused most of my attention on these two categories, I did find myself tasting white and rose Italian wines as I find that they ware somewhat more fruit forward than other countries.  I didn’t bother tasting any Italian red wines as I don’t have an appreciation for complex tannins.  I like my wine easy to drink, just like my men!   Feel free to pass that rumour around!

Pinot Grigio Isonzo del Friuli DOC
Pinot Grigio / $21.49

In the event of an earthquake I’m crawling underneath my desk as I have cookies, chocolate but most important of all, 6 bottles of BORGO CONVENTI Pinot Grigio Isonzo del Friuli which is a lovely white wine with aromas of lemon meringue pie and notes of lime zest and lemongrass and a body softer than any baby’s bottom #ImTakingReservationsForUnderMyDesk

Bottega Vino Dei Poeti Brut Rose
Pinot Nero / Everything Wine: $16

Let the sipping begin they said as the doors to the 2020 Vancouver International Wine Festival opened and in my haste I pushed one of my wine geek friends to the floor. But he’ll forgive me once I buy him a case of this off dry BOTTEGA Rose Gold whose intoxicating aromas of strawberry and raspberry pie and notes of peach and citrus peel with its lively acidity make me so giddy that I can’t say no to anything. #IsThatWhyIHave10Kids?

Pinot Noir

You ask me if I love you
and I choke on my reply
Because I’d rather drink my wine
Than to tell you why
the aromas of raspberries and notes of sweet summer strawberries with soft but lively bubbles of CANTINE GIACOMO MONTRESOR Rose Royal Brut

that I fell in love with your brother

CARPINETO Dogajolo Bianco 2018
Chardonnay, Grechetto, Sauvignon Blanc / $18.99

Some people have god mothers, me I have a fairy wine mother who grants me to me every day a bottle of CARPINETO Dogajolo Bianco 2018 with its aromas of Mandarin orange and notes of lemon meringue and pear which is a medium bodied wine with well-balanced acidity. And a soft finish. That is, as long as I give her my first born son. Someone forgot to tell her that I’m over 40. #WillYouTakeMyLyingCheatingHusbandInstead?

Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo Rose Biologico 2017
Montepulciano $20.99

I blame JASCI & MARCHESANI Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo Rose Biologico 2017 for putting me on Santa’s naughty list last year because whenever the cork is popped, it’s aromas of strawberry and cherry jam make me so delirious. And because the wine is fruit forward with ripe red cherries and overflowing with soft tannins and gorgeous notes of juicy red cherries, those things make it so easy to drink that I can finish a bottle in 5 minutes. #SantaDidntAppreciateTheMilkAndPotCookiesILeftForHim
