Canada Day: Mamie Taylor’s Hosts RibFest 2016

Annual battle of the BBQs pits Vancouver’s top grillers against each other

Calling all BBQ fans! The eighth annual RibFest comes to Mamie Taylor’s in Chinatown on Canada Day: Friday, July 1.

The annual BBQ competition that began as humble East Van backyard holiday cook-off in 2009, now brings together BBQ masters from restaurants across the city to meet over the flames of competition.

On Canada Day — Friday, July 1, 2016, starting at 2 pm — Tobias Grignon of Mamie Taylor’s will fire up the outdoor grills at 251 East Georgia Street and welcome fellow RibFest competitors:

Sarah Stewart of Juniper
Jeff MacIntosh of Dixie’s BBQ
Devin Blaney of Peckinpah (winner of RibFest 2015)
Michael Kaisaris from Re-Up BBQ

At stake are bragging rights and the coveted RibFest Cup, a DIY trophy which is “improved” upon each year by the winning restaurant.

Only 100 judging tickets will be available to members of the public, who will choose the winning chef/restaurant. $10 Judging tickets will be available for sale onsite at Mamie Taylor’s (251 E. Georgia Street) at 4pm on a first-come-first-served basis.

Judging plates will feature a rib from each of the competitors and a voting token. The ribs with the most votes will be slathered in victory and rub defeat into the competition!

Throughout the afternoon and into the evening, Mamie Taylor’s will also be serving a $15 rib platter featuring slow-cooked Lowland ribs made with Chef Tobias Grignon’s signature BBQ sauce and sides of coleslaw, macaroni salad and corn on the cob.

The city’s hottest BBQ rib masters will fire up your appetite on Wednesday, July 1 (Canada Day).
When: Friday, July 1 — Doors at 2pm. Grills fire at 4pm. Judging at 6pm.
Where: Mamie Taylor’s (251 E Georgia Street)
Tickets: $10 available onsite as of 4pm on a first-come-first-served basis
