Peruvian Nikkei Cooking Class
at Chicha on March 25, 2019
Nikkei in Japanese means “second generation”. Many “issei- first generation” Japanese immigrated to Peru as early as the late 1800’s for an opportunity for a better life in a country called Peru, somewhere on the opposite side of the world “where the earth was full of gold”. They came to work as contract labourers on Peruvian plantations and many stayed past their contracts and opened small business and raised future generations of Japanese Peruvians. Japanese Peruvian cuisine has a long and delicious history in Peru and our chef Shelome Bouvette and GM Kumiko Umeno want to share a Nikkei cooking class experience with you.
