Shuck It Forward

Third Annual ‘Shuck It Forward’ Fundraiser To Benefit Bikers For Autism Society

North America’s Best Oyster Shuckers Compete for $2,500 Cash
at Chewies Steam & Oyster Bar

Chewies Steam & Oyster Bar, located at 1055 West Hastings in Coal Harbour, is proud to present the 3rd annual Shuck It Forward oyster shucking competition and fundraiser benefiting Bikers For Autism Society. On Sunday, May 28, 2017, 24 of North America’s best oyster shuckers will compete for $2,500 in cash prizes, entry and return airfare to compete in the 54th Annual Tyne Valley Canadian Championships in Prince Edward Island, and the official ‘BFA Shuck It Forward’ trophy.

Last year Shuck It Forward raised over $22,000, and this year the goal is $30,000. The funds raised will directly support many initiatives including the BFA/Music Heals Music Therapy Program at the Pacific Autism Family Centre, the Surf’s Up for Autism Camp in Tofino, Little Heroes Hockey Academy, the BFA Respite Night, and BFA Ambassador Programs.

James Baker, the founder of Bikers For Autism, is humbled by all the generous support. “Each year it just gets bigger and better. There are so many amazing local businesses that sponsor us or donate items. They literally help us raise thousands and we couldn’t do it without them!”

The festivities will include a silent auction, the chance to win a stocked wine cellar, awards for the People’s Champ Seafood/Clam Chowder and for the Best Motorcycle, live music by Tim Sars Trio & special guests, a beer tap takeover by Strange Fellows Brewing and Parkside Brewery, and specialty cocktails. The latest Bikers For Autism t-shirt design, and all the classic styles, will be available at the BFA merchandise booth alongside autism service providers Music Heals, Pacific Autism Family Center, Autism Support Network, Surf’s Up For Autism and much more.

The event is rain or shine from 12pm – 5pm. Tickets are $25 at the door.
