Every year, my favorite event to attend at the Vancouver International Wine Festival is the 25 Wines Under $25 seminar as it’s definitely up my frugal alley.  Hosted by James Nevison, The Province‘s “Wine Guy” and author of the best-selling Had a Glass series of wine guides, 25 Wines under $25 was a great event for me to taste wines that won’t break the budget.

But before you read my recommendations from 25 Wines under $25  I have dubbed myself the Wine Sweetie as I’m a simple girl when it comes to wines.  I don’t like red complex wines with tobacco and leather or white wines with layers of oak. I just like the simple taste of fruit and wines that seduce me with their soft or elegant tannins.  And bubbles, well, that’s just a real girly-girl wine for girls like me.  The following are my recommendations should you have the same wine palate as me.  If not, just ignore me and keep on drinking.

Hester Creek Character Red VQA 2014 ($15.39) BC  Black fruit flavours, licorice and earthy, it’s a wine with character and elegant tannins.
Medici Ermete Concerto Lambrusco Reggiano DOC 2014 ($19.99) Italy A very juicy red that has silky tannins and just is so easy to drink with so much ripe cherries and blueberries on the palate with aromas of  cranberries.
Quails’ Gate Winery Chasselas Pinot Blanc Pinot Gris 2014 ($16.59) BC A wine that has crisp acidity, off dry and is very aromatic with honeydew melon, apple, pear and pink grapefruit. Slightly off-dry, with touch of minerality and a nicely balanced citrus finish

Taylor Fladgate Late Bottled Vintage Port 2010 ($23.99 BC) Portugal  One of my favorite ports with plums, butterscotch and raisins on the palate.
Tenute Piccini Prosecco NV ($17.99) Italy A very fruit forward wine with aroma of apple and lemon and grapefruit on the palate and lively bubbles.
Tinhorn Creek Vineyards Oldfield Series 2 Bench White 2014 ($21.49) BC  Pear and stone fruit on the nose with apples on the palate with a clean crisp finish

Unsworth Vineyards Allegro 2014 ($20) BC Blend of Petit Milo and Sauvignette, fresh and crisp and light in body with apple on the nose and honeydew and lime on the palate.

Vinci Santa Ema Barrel Reserve 60/40 2014 ($17.99) Chile Blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot from the Maipo Valley. Aroma of plums and blackberries with vanilla and cinnamon, elegant tannins and velvet finish.
